It is such usual thing now for the young people experienced mental health related current events. They are easily to feel the blue or feel the down in the dumps frequently. Adolescence is always worrying time, worried about many emotional, physical, psychological and social changes. They are there coming together in this stage of life. Idealistic academic, family and social expectations can develop strong sense of refusal. It can lead to deep disappointment. If things went wrong at home or school, teens tend to overreact. Most of them think that life is not fair or what they did don’t go in their way. They then feel stressed and confused. It becomes worsen when teens are attacked by conflicted messages from friends, parents and society. Recently, teens know more about the meaning of life, whether good or bad, at school, in magazines and on the internet. In addition, they are faced to understand the AIDS treat in their surroundings, even when they are not sexually active or they are not using drugs. Teens need adult for their guidance in facing mental health related current events. They need adult to be more understandable to all their physical and emotional changes. Teens are experiencing those changes and sometimes they don’t even realize it. If teens’ moods disturb their daily activities especially the basic one, it may be one of the indicators that they are experiencing serious emotional or mental health problem. They need more attention. This is called adolescent depression. Parents, teachers and caregivers must do something.

Dealing with Adolescent Pressures

When you find teens feeling down, there are many ways they can do with those feelings. They should do something to avoid deeper depression. Here are the recommendations to help them in developing the acceptance and belonging sense. This is important for mental health related current events in adolescents. First, they should try to make new friends. The good relationship with their peers can increase the self-esteem in teens’ life. It can provide the essential social channel as well. Second, ask them in participating activities or hobbies such as in sports, job or school. Keeping busy can help teens to focus on the good and positive activities. It is better than having negative behaviors and feelings.

Third, teens can join the organizations which offer many kinds of programs for young people. Special program which based on the teens’ interests will develop their additional hobby. Fourth, teens should ask trusted adult to help them. When they face the problems which cannot be handled by them, they should not be ashamed and afraid to ask for help.

However, sometimes, though we do the best effort but still teens become stressed. Many factors can contribute the depression. Studies found that people with depression typically have too much or too little of definite brain chemicals. The family history can affect the risk of depression development as well. The most common factors which can contribute depression are the difficult life events such as divorce or death, medications side effects and negative thought patterns.

Recognizing Adolescent Depression

The increasing of adolescent depression is now at the worrying rate. Many recently surveys signify that one of five teens suffer from mental health related current events. This is really serious problem which really need the right treatment. Depression can be in some forms include bipolar disorder which is the condition that changes between periods of depression and euphoria. Depression is hard to diagnose in teens. That’s because adults will think that teens act moody. Moreover, not all adolescents can understand well and express what they feel very well. Normally, they are not aware of the depression symptoms. The symptoms are poor performance in school, sadness and hopelessness, withdrawal from friends and activities and lack of enthusiasm, energy or motivation. Moreover, teens can also express their mental health related current events through hostile, aggressive, risk taking attitude. This attitude can lead to other new problem. That’s why to avoid and prevent the deeper level of depression; they should take medications as soon as possible. It is also to avoid the stress and anxiety can destroy the relationship with family, friends, school and other communities.

Treating Adolescent Depression

Depression is a serious mental health related current events, and it should not be left. If it isn’t treated as soon possible, it can be worsened and become life-threatening. However, if the depressed teens don’t want to be treated, then family or the close relatives should ask professional’s advice. Having therapy is one of the ways to treat depression. It can be individually, in group or family counseling. Medication can be given based on the psychiatrist prescription.

There are several most common to treat depression in adolescent effectively. First is by doing psychotherapy. It provides the opportunity for teens in exploring the events and painful feelings which troubles them a lot. The psychotherapy will teach them how to cope those feelings. Second is by having cognitive-behavioral therapy. This can help teens in changing the negative patterns on how the think and behave. Third is interpersonal therapy. It focuses more on the development of having healthier relationship at home and school. The last one is medication. It can relieve the depression symptoms. The medication comes along with the therapy as well. When the depressed adolescent takes the medication by themselves, then that will be a good start to recover. However, that’s only a few, others may need encouragement for family and friend to recover from the mental health related current events.
